15 Constituencies Endorse Prof Delle

A Group comprising fifteen (15) constituencies in the Greater Accra region has stated the need for delegates to re-elect Prof Delle as Chairman of the Convention Peoples’ Party (CPP) at their forthcoming National Delegates Conference.

“We have observed with great concern, the dwindling fortunes of our party at elections and on the ground at the grassroots level; it is in this vein that we declare our unflinching support and absolute willingness to work to bring back Prof Delle as Chairman of the CPP.”

The fifteen constituencies include Odododiodio, Ledzorkuku, Osu Klottey, La Dadekotopon, Ayawaso East, Ayawaso West, Dome Kwabenya, Madina Abokobi, Adenta, Dodowa, Kpone Katamanso, Okaikoi North, Okaikoi South, Ablekuma North and Weija.

Briefing the media in Accra on Tuesday, leading CPP member and spokesperson for the group, Frederick Opoku said the group had assessed the party’s standing under the chairmanship of Prof Delle as well as its standing under current CPP Chairman, Ladi Nylander and were convinced that bringing back a rejuvenated leader would place the CPP in a better position to succeed.

He noted that the group had observed the clear disconnection that currently exists between party members at the grassroots, regional and national levels, something which never existed under the chairmanship of Prof Delle.

The group said there had been numerous times when the press could not find anybody at the national office to comment on critical issues that will project the CPP’s stance on them.

The spokesperson said these and many other reasons clearly showed the spate of inefficiency in the party under the current chairman, adding that history showed that leaders who lost their position and regained it later performed tremendously such as former US Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Bill Clinton as well as former British Premier Winston Churchill.

According to the group, the CPP needs renovation and innovation to shore up the party’s fortunes in the next general elections and that such an endeavor required unity, consensus building and tenacity of purpose to achieve.

Prof Delle according to the group seeks to achieve this by mobilizing and building the capacity of the human resource base within the party for effective campaigning as well as working with identifiable groups such as the youth and women’s wing, tertiary networks and council of elders.

Mr. Opoku explained further that Prof. Delle’s unflinching loyalty to the CPP and Nkrumaist beliefs, doctrines and principles were enough for the group to endorse his candidature.

“For CPP to wrestle power from the ruling NDC which is failing, the party should get a strong and action-oriented chairman which we believe is Prof Edmund Delle,” he said.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE in an interview, Mr. Opoku said division was a major canker within the party and the only person who can unite the CPP is Prof Delle.

He urged all delegates to look beyond monetary considerations when deciding who should occupy executive positions in the party. The CPP’s focus should be to aim at choosing capable men and women of integrity to steer the affairs of the party.
