The suspects are Adiza Osmane- 18, Awal Musah- 17, Musa Alhassan- 17, Sadique Abubakar aka Lale- 18, Awal Mohammed- 17, Nash Awudu- 18, and Usif Hamza- 17.
A five-kilogramme bag of rice in which the suspects concealed their weapons was retrieved by the police.
Two locally-made pistols and nine cartridges were found hidden under the rice when the police finally opened it.
Narrating the story to DAILY GUIDE, the Accra Regional Public Relations Officer, DSP Freeman Tetteh, said the police received a tip-off that the six young men and the woman had planned to rob a shop at Tema.
The information indicated that the suspects, who were then hiding at Agbogbloshie, had hidden their arms meant for the operation under a five-kilogramme bag of rice.
When police raided their hideout at Agbogbloshie, around 9:30am yesterday, the suspects were nabbed together with the bag and taken to the station for interrogation.
Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed that they decided to rob their prospective victims from Accra and Tema to avenge the death of their colleague Ati Ayara who died during a police shootout in Kumasi.
On June 22, 2012, six of the suspects arrived from Kumasi for their mission while suspect Usif Hamza decided to join them later.
At Agbogbloshie, Adiza Osman housed them while they awaited the return of Usif from Kumasi.
Around 9:30am yesterday, the suspects bought the five-kilogramme bag of rice to hide their weapons for the operation in it, when the police, upon a tip-off, grabbed them.
Further investigations indicated that the suspects had been involved in robbery for some time now.
Adiza Osman, according to information, acted as a prostitute to get clients for her friends to rob later.
The suspects are currently in police custody helping in investigations.
