7 boys gang rape female student
The Akropong Divisional Police Command has arrested five persons in connection with the gang rape of a student of Benkum Senior High School, Larteh, in the Eastern Region.
Public Relations Officer of the Domestic Violence and Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Police Service, Robert Freeman Tettey, told Joy FM the five suspects had been charged with conspiracy and rape.
He said the police were still searching for the remaining two.
According to DSP Tettey, the suspects would be arraigned at Akropong to be remanded while investigations continue.
A second-year student of the school was allegedly gang-raped by seven boys of the school.
The act is believed to have taken place last Saturday on the premises of the school.
The incident was reported to the school authorities on Monday and they, in turn, reported it to the police on Tuesday for the law to take its course.
According to Citi FM, two boys who were part of the gang were first arrested, leading to the arrest of the other three.
The victim, who is in her teens, gave her statement to the police for further investigations after she left the hospital.
“She is traumatised and she tells me she is not in the right frame of mind,” said Citi FM’s correspondent.
The victim said she accompanied a friend to deliver a book to another person who was waiting for her in one of the classrooms and it was then that she was ambushed.
The obviously-distraught young lady did not report the incident to the school authorities when it happened and it is believed she did so to either protect her interest or that of one of the boys who is believed to be her ex-boyfriend.
