Five students of the Ho Polytechnic have been identified by a team from the Ho Nursing Training College as being part of the group who was alleged to have sexually molested some student nurses of the college.

The five were part of six students picked up for interrogation in connection with the alleged indecent act that happened last week Monday at about 7:30pm.

The five, whose names the police and polytechnic’s administration have held tightly to their chest, were identified during an identification parade held at the Ho Municipal Police Station on Wednesday.

Four students were earlier picked up on Tuesday while the other two were picked up on the day of the parade, bringing the number to 6.

The nursing college team included three students, a tutor and a security man.The five students have been bailed, but will be reporting as and when necessary to assist in investigations.

The parade, which lasted for almost an hour, was done behind closed doors within the confines of the police station. The Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Samuel Owusu Berko, told Daily Guide that the identification did not necessarily mean the suspects were guilty and that more investigations had to be done to get more evidence and facts.

He said when investigations were completed, the suspects would be arraigned, unless the complainants decided to have an out-of-court settlement.

He expressed gratitude to the polytechnic’s administration for their cooperation and hoped the remaining two who made up the eight suspects listed, would also be picked up for interrogation and identification.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Jakpasu Afun, noted that the identification parade had vindicated the polytechnic from allegations that there were shielding their students. He therefore noted that the institute would continue to ensure that all students are given the right academic and moral training.

In reaction to what the polytechnic would do in the instance of an out-of-court settlement, he said irrespective of what happened, there was the need for students found culpable of the incident to be punished.

He however declined to mention the kind of punishment, saying, “That will depend on the extent of remorse shown by the students involve.”

Some students and parents who were spotted at the premises of the police station during the identification parade could not hide their feelings as some shed tears while others maintained a strong face.

A parent was overhead telling one of the students that her son could have been involved in the mass sexual molestation, saying, she had given him a good training. However, Daily Guide gathered that the said student was part of those identified after the parade.

Daily Guide also gathered that the tutor who witnessed the incident and had earlier stressed that she could identify some of the perpetuators was able to identify one suspect.

During the mass sexual molestation, students of the Ho Polytechnic were alleged to have chased and pushed the student nurses down, lay on top of them and stroked them as though they were having sex with them.

Others, also upon lying on the defenseless ladies, put their hands in their dresses and fondled their breasts and buttocks. All these were done amidst invectives like “One man no chop” and “You be our women”.

In some cases, the student nurses were partially stripped naked to the extent that one could see their underpants. One of the affected students is also reported to have told a tutor that some of the students attempted to insert their fingers in her vagina.
