Hohoe clashes: Police arrest two for arson; Torgbi Sri on peace visit

Two people are in police grips for allegedly burning houses in the Hohoe township during communal clashes last week.
According to Accra-based Joy FM, the arrests were made known during a meeting of the Municipal Chief Executive and the Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Alex Bedie. The report said the suspects are helping with investigations.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Chiefs led by the Awormefia, Torgbi Sri III of Anlo, is in the Gbi Traditional area to help restore total peace in Hohoe.
Torgbi Sri III is meeting with the two feuding factions – the traditional leaders and the Muslims – in order to restore the spirit of co-existence among the locals.
About 6,041 people have fled the area to neighbouring Jasikan and other environs.
The clashes on Monday started when some youth of the Zongo Community found the exhumed body of the local Imam at the roadside at the outskirt of the town after his burial on Sunday.
He was reportedly buried in defiance of a ban on the burial of members of the Zongo Community on Gbi Land.
The traditional authorities of Gbi imposed the ban after some Zongo youth vandalised the
Hohoe Government Hospital and attacked some of its staff accusing them that their negligence had led to the death of a colleague.
