The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) is to investigate and identify the offending political party in the disagreements between the NDC and NPP over who owns the People Matter, You Matter slogan for the December polls.

The NDC and NPP are both claiming ownership of the slogan “People Matter, You Matter” which they want to headline their campaigns.

Both political parties have also set the same date to launch their national campaigns.

The actions constitute a violation of the Political Parties Code to which both parties are signatories.

Ransford Gyampoh, Researcher at the governance unit of the IEA, told Joy News: “Political parties in the course of campaigning avoid plagiarizing the symbols, slogans of other parties or candidates. Clearly, if you look at this provision, one of them may be running afoul of this particular provision, and it is unacceptable.

“So we have to investigate who came out first with what provision or what slogan then we will be able to determine clearly that one is not complying with a document that they themselves contributed extensively in preparing.”
