John Babani defiles 12 year old girl
John Babani, a 40-year-old cleaner at the Saint Jude Hospital at Obuasi in the Ashanti region, who has been unleashing his libido on a 12-year-old girl of the St. Thomas R/C Primary School, has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.
He pleaded guilty to defilement, contrary to Section 101 of Act 1960 when he appeared before an Obuasi Circuit Court, presided over by Gilbert Ayisi Addo.
Babani, a father of three– two girls and one boy aged between 18 and 24, had sex with the 12-year-old class six pupil on several occasions until he was caught on March 26, 2011.
The convict was busily having bouts of sexual intercourse with the victim in his room at Old Estate, a suburb of Obuasi when the complainant, Collins Nketiah chanced upon him following a tip-off by a seven-year-old boy, police prosecutor Yaw Obeng Asubonteng told the court.
According to him, the convict is a regular customer of the complainant, who operates a drinking bar in his house at Bedieso, another suburb of Obuasi.
DSP Asubonteng said unknown to the complainant, Babani had sex with his daughter without condom on five occasions till he caught him on the afternoon of Saturday, March 26, this year.
Prosecution stated further that the convict was caught red-handed in the act.
A report was made to the police who arrested Babani while a medical form was issued for the victim to be taken to hospital for treatment.
He admitted the offence in his caution statement, the police prosecutor concluded.
