The NPP Member of Parliament for Assin North, Honourable Kennedy Agyapong, has asked the media to desist from giving major prominence to only political issues instead of focusing on human centered development issues.

The public perception about the media, according to Hon. Agyapong, would change if the media desists from excessive reportage on political issues.

Mr. Agyapong noted that “it looks as if every blessed day, any (radio) station which does not talk about politics will not make money.”

“This dogmatic agenda of focusing solely on political matters by our media is unfortunate,” he said adding that some unscrupulous people are taking advantage of this to “blatantly lie every day.”

The Assin North MP, who decline to specifically name or point fingers at any particular radio station; further maintained that some radio stations are only interested in sensationalizing issues.

Speaking to Citi News in an interview, the CEO of Kencity Media charged the various media houses in the country, including his own media outlet, Net2 TV and Oman FM, to set examples by beginning to give priority to human centered and development issues pointing out that the political ways of addressing issues was “sharply dividing the country which is not helpful for us.”
