The Spokesperson for former President Jerry Rawlings, Mr Kofi Adams, has stated that former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, would cause a big stir at the forthcoming presidential primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He said although Nana Konadu had been perceived as the underdog in the contest, she would definitely defy all predictions and spring a surprise by emerging as the winner of the primary.
Mr Adams, who was interacting with the Daily Graphic via telephone from Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, explained that the campaign team of the former First Lady was not leaving anything to chance.
“Our interaction with the delegates is going well and we surely believe that such goodwill will be translated into votes on the congress day,” he said.
He said the response the campaign team continued to receive from the delegates was encouraging and heart warming.
According to him, the campaign team would work till the voting day to ensure that Nana Konadu would emerge victorious.
Mr Adams explained that Nana Konadu was not contesting for her personal interest but to refocus the party on the ideals which facilitated its formation in 1992.
He said those who had branded the former First Lady as a personality who was hungry for political power had not really listened to her message of rebranding and redefining the structures of the NDC to meet the expectations of the core supporters of the party across the country.
The spokesperson for ex-President Rawlings pointed out that Nana Konadu decided to contest the primary to fulfil the wishes of the overwhelming members and supporters of the party who felt consigned to the periphery of activities on its front.
Mr Adams called on supporters of Nana Konadu to remain calm and work hard to ensure that she would squeeze past the other contestant in the primary to merge as the flag bearer of the NDC for the 2012 polls.
