The Konadu campaign team in Brong Ahafo region has attacked Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, for allegedly playing an active role in preventing party delegates from meeting Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, during her recent visit to the region.
The former First Lady and incumbent President Mills will battle it out for the flag bearer ship slot during the NDC congress, come July 8-10, 2011
Mr. Nyamekye-Marfo, a former cadre and District Secretary during the PNDC and National Democratic Congress (NDC) I era for several years under former President Jerry John Rawlings, has been accused of allegedly instructing all Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs), as well as NDC constituency chairmen in the region, to device schemes to deny Nana Konadu access to delegates when her campaign team toured the area last week.
Nana Yaw Boampong, Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Coordinator for the Konadu campaign team told DAILY GUIDE the regional minister allegedly held a meeting with the MDCEs and the constituency chairman at his official residence on June 15, two days to the former First Lady’s tour of the region, and issued the instruction to them.
According to him the directive was hatched by Brong Ahafo NDC gurus who have all deserted the Rawlingses who made them what they are today and have now chosen to follow President Mills.
Mr. Boampong said the regional minister would be the biggest liar on earth, if he came out to deny what he was accusing him of.
A statement issued and signed by Brong Ahafo Regional Chairman of the NDC, Opoku Atuahene said on Thursday that “The regional executive members are challenging Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings to withdraw her statement because she and her team were received as a former First Lady, and one of the contestants for the flagbearer ship of the great party NDC.”
According to the regional Chairman, it was not true that the regional executives kept the delegates indoors in order not to meet with Nana Konadu and her team.
The statement said delegates across the region did what was expected of them by offering the necessary respect and recognition to the founder’s wife, stressing that “the entire membership of the regional executive consider this allegation by Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings against Brong Ahafo as untrue.”
