Kweku Baako: Rawlings Must Listen to Kufuor

The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has admonished Ghana’s ex military leader, Jerry John Rawlings to listen to former President Kufuor’s advice on good statesmanship, adding that he (Rawlings) cannot be an agitator forever.

Kweku Baako added that it is time for Ghana’s former President to tone down his aggressive posture and constant criticism of past and present governments and be a role model for the youth.

Mr Baako’s comment comes after former President Kufuor sent a heartwarming birthday message and a friendly piece of advice to his predecessor, former President John Rawlings who turned 64 on Wednesday, June 22, 2011.

In his message President Kufuor declared, “Rawlings is blessed…God has indeed honoured him”.

The recently named joint-winner of the World Food Prize Foundation Award asked Mr. Rawlings – who ruled Ghana for almost 20 years – to “love God more and cool down his temper”.

“He should calm down and control his temper… and rather thank God,” he jovially said in an interview on Peace FM.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana show on Thursday June 23, Mr Baako said the advice from President Kufuor to his predecessor is indeed the right one but wondered if the founder of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) would take it.

Rawlings must take Kufuor’s advice…you cannot be an agitator general all your life…It gets to a time when you say enough is enough.

“The advice is well placed but I am not sure that he will take it because of where it is coming from.”

Mr Baako added that the upcoming Sunyani congress would reduce the stature of the Rawlingses in the NDC.

According to him, the NDC delegates are not ready to change the President ahead of the 2012 elections because it could spell doom for the Mills-Mahama government.

“What would happen in Sunyani is that it would reduce the stature of the Rawlingses” he predicted.
