According to him, some NDC functionaries whose names he refused to mention are paying paltry sums to poach voter ID cards from people living in some remote parts of the country.
Bamba noted the ruling party had taken advantage of the current severe economic hardships to take these cards away from unsuspecting people.
He was addressing hundreds of NPP fans at the Manhyia constituency during the official launching of the ‘Zongo Pioneers, a splinter group in the party with members mainly from the Zongo areas of the city.
“Open their eyes wide” and report any incident of voter ID card buying to the security agents for the perpetrators to be apprehended, he said.
He further warned the NPP that the ruling party would surely send security agents sympathetic to them to monitor the elections in the areas where they want to rig the polls.
Bamba therefore entreated party supporters to monitor the ballot box with an “eagle” eye on the day of elections, warning the NPP that their over reliance on security agents to monitor the polls for them could prove disastrous.
The NPP national organizer said the card buying is part of the NDC’s diabolic scheme to remain in power as they have realized they cannot win when the elections are held in a free and fair manner.
He was optimistic the NPP would win the impending polls, but said “political victory in 2012 will not come on a silver platter so we should prepare adequately for that.”
He charged the Zongo communities to campaign against the NDC’s bad government and play leading roles to ensure the NPP wins the elections to improve their lives.
Bamba refuted assertions that the NPP was for the Akans, notably the Ashantis, indicating that a proper study of the NPP history indicates the party belongs to the northerners.
