Founder of NDC Party Jerry John Rawlings

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will be 20 years in June. A statement issued by the NDC failed to mention the role of the founder in formation of the party further casting doubts whether Mr Rawlings will join the celebrations.

The statement which was signed by the General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the formation of the party was conceived with a vision – to promote the unity of the country; build on the various facets of anchoring the nation’s stability which was secured by the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), the progenitor to the NDC; and above all to provide the needed development by placing Ghanaians at the centre of every action of leadership.

The statement further added that the NDC since its formation 20 years ago has “strived by and large on the backs of volunteers who are driven by the spirit of nationalism and patriotism to make Ghana a better place worth living”.

According to the statement, “there are many patriots within the party who have devoted their energies and lives even at the neglect of their social and economic development”.

This year’s celebration is under the theme: two decades of unity, stability and development. The following activities have been lined up to mark the occasion:

June 8, 2012 – Muslim prayers
June 8, 2012 – Fund raising dinner dance
June 9, 2012 – Rallies at constituencies
June 10, 2012 – Inter – denominational services

NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS (NDC) CELEBRATES 20TH ANNIVERSARY

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), will be 20 years next month.

The party was born on June 10, 1992 to among others, promote participatory democracy and responsible government in this country.

The formation was conceived with a vision – to promote the unity of our dear nation; build on the various facets of anchoring the nation’s stability which was secured by the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), the progenitor to the NDC; and above all to provide the needed development by placing our citizens at the centre of every action of leadership.

The NDC since its formation 20 years ago has strived by and large on the backs of volunteers who are driven by the spirit of nationalism and patriotism to make Ghana a better place worth living. There are many patriots within the party who have devoted their energies and lives even at the neglect of their social and economic development. At the peril of their lives, they toiled to put the NDC on the high pedestal it is occupying today and where we hope to keep it for the youth and future generations.

Indeed it is through the efforts of our comrades we ushered in a history of reformation and innovation in the country’s political landscape. The NDC introduced a new brand of political institution, an entirely new force – an amalgam of people with varied political ideologies and opinions. This political formation, a novelty has helped transform the country’s socio-economic and political aspirations in the last two decades.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party, wishes, on this historic occasion to extend our warmest felicitations and congratulations to the founding fathers, members, supporters and all sympathizers and Ghanaians who have solidly stood behind the Party in pursuit of its aspirations and expectations of nurturing and consolidating democracy in this country. The NDC remains anchored in the ideals of probity, transparency and accountability and shall forever stick to its cherished values and traditions.

We wish all party activists, friends and sympathisers a happy 20th anniversary.

LONG LIVE NDC

LONG LIVE GHANA.

Signed 30/5/12
Johnson Asiedu Nketiah,
General Secretary, NDC.
