Beninois Theodore Lokossou’s failure to respond to the round seven bell on Saturday night handed Ghana’s Osumanu Akaba the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Super Featherweight title at the Lebanon House in Accra.

And by that feat, the Ghanaian southpaw has inched closer to fighting for a world title soon. He is currently ranked among the first 10 in his division.

Akaba dominated the fight from start till his opponent failed to respond to the bell. He was in a razor-sharp form on a night lovers of the sport stayed glued to their seats even when the Heavens opened up its gates for some showers.

He stepped up his campaign in the fifth and sixth round and one of his raids sent his opponent, who hardly threw a meaningful punch, to the ropes. Earlier, the visitor had resorted to clinching when things started going bad for him.

Sleek fighter George “Red Tiger” Ashie produced a vintage performance against his last-minute substitute Nigerian Prince Nurudeen in their International Light Weight contest .

It was a one way traffic as Ashie was clearly ahead, throwing all the punches till Nurudeen, who replaced Holland-based Innocent Anyawu at the eleventh hour, surrendered in round four.

The last fight saw Raster-haired Malik Jabir sending the crowd into a frenzy with his good swerves in a fight many considered him an underdog.

As usual, Jabir started well, winning the first two rounds, but caved-in in the third round, allowing Tackie Annang to dominate that round. He however bounced back strongly to stop the fight in round five when Tackie’s corner men decided not to continue the fight.

Other bouts saw John Amuzu overpowering Sam Addotey in 2 minutes 23secs in round one in a super bantamweight contest, while Raymond Commey defeated Isaac Nettey on a unanimous point decision.

Promoter of the well patronized event, Godwin Kwame Ahiakpor of Heart of Lions fame, described the show as a huge success. “I will describe it as huge success, it’s my first time and I believe the prospects are very good.”

Responding to when he intends staging another promotion, he revealed, “Heart of Lions Promotions have fixed December 26 for the bout at an unconfirmed venue.”

He expressed thanks to the Ghana Boxing Authority, his sponsors rlg Communications and other partners for making the show dubbed, “Only the Strong”, a huge success.
