Seven pregnant girls write BECE in Dormaa East District
Seven pregnant girls wrote the just-ended 2011 Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) in the Dormaa East District of the Brong Ahafo Region.
In an interview with DAILY GUIDE at Wamfie, the Dormaa East District Co-ordinator for Basic Education, Justina Owusu-Banahene, disclosed that seven out of eight candidates who got pregnant, turned up for the examination.
A total of 777 candidates, consisting of 356 girls and 421 boys, took part in the examinations at three centres at Wamfie and Wamanafo, where some five candidates failed to turn up.
Madam Owusu-Banahene narrated the story of a candidate who became crippled after he had registered for the exams and had to be carried to and from the examination hall.
She said the boy in question allegedly became a cripple a day after somebody had torn a picture he had snapped into pieces, just after the registration.
Meanwhile, she has advised the candidates to stay away from premarital sex since that could ruin their future.
The District co-ordinator, who had earlier visited the three centres under her purview, charged the candidates to hold on to good moral values such as chastity and respect for the elderly.
