A former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Very Rev. Dr. Yaw Frimpong Manso, has described the reaction by the General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the Church’s call on the EC to halt the creation of the new constituencies as unfortunate.

The NDC chief scribe, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, is reported to have accused the Church of working for the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to the former moderator, the church made the demand from the Electoral Commission and it is the Commission which should respond to it and not the ruling party.

He told Citi News, “the Presbyterian Church of Ghana is very cautious with their communiqués and we have issued communiqués over the years because we have research bodies that research all the time to find out what is happening in the country. We cannot comment on everything at a time.”

Very Rev. Dr. Manso explained that “if the church says it is important for the EC to isolate this one and say because of the brevity of time, they should rethink and if possible, suspend it. If we say this, we haven’t done anything wrong. We are not attacking any political party.”

He added that “The Electoral Commissioner himself should come out and say it is a short time, but I will pursue it whether you have spoken or not; I don’t mind. That would have been ok than for Asiedu Nketia to respond to this communiqué.”
