Ruth Gyamfi arrested for forging Police commander signature
Police in Bekwai in the Ashanti region have arrested a fifty-year-old businesswoman for allegedly forging the signature of the Accra regional Police commander Rose Atinga Bio.
Ruth Gyamfi is also accused of forging other documents to fraudulently enlist people in the Police service.
She is suspected to have defrauded about three hundred people of thousands of Ghana Cedis.
Madam Gyamfi, alleged to have been registering people in churches, has implicated some police officers in the Ashanti region.
The District Police Commander for Bekwai, Superintendent Felix Kwesi Cosmos in an interview with Joy FM said they arrested the suspect after a tip-off.
He said the police retrieved several forged documents from her after a thorough search.
She is alleged to have named an accomplice who she insists is part of the police service in the Ashanti Region.
She is in police custody, pending further investigation and prosecution.
The police headquarters in Accra has been notified of the incident.
But the Accra regional Police commander Rose Atinga Bio has declined comment on the matter.
